Richard Spangenberg
Founder and Executive Director

Richard Spangenberg Executive DirectorMr. Spangenberg brings strong strategic and general management experience to the foundation. His depth and breadth of industry knowledge, combined with a solid vision for the future provides a creative approach to marketing, organization and development.

He has a successful track record of directing and motivating large teams drawn from a variety of disciplines and instilling a sense of ownership among team members. His background in brand and corporate management  provides a solid grounding in financial planning and control.

He is a proven and experienced start-up entrepreneur and personally raised over $7 million in venture capital. He managed and ran small, medium and large-scale businesses on an executive, director and manager levels with full profit responsibility. Has worked in the travel, package goods, and advertising industries with staff in excess of 90 individuals reporting to him.

He was personally responsible for creating and running non profit fund raising events for a local church and political party including charity balls, themed event dinners, live and silent auctions, carnivals, raffles and dinner parties for large groups.

Most recently, he has been developing television shows and managing a production company HDTV-Entertainment.

He holds an Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Millersville State University in PA, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Lehigh University, a Masters in Business Administration from Baruch College in NYC, and as studied filmmaking at Rochester Institute of Technology, Rhode Island School of Design and New York University.

Joy Rendahl
Director of Strategic Development

Joy is an experienced, licensed, well-connected financial executive with proven track record in new business development in private banking and private equity. She has extensive contacts, excellent people skills, and a broad high-level community involvement.

She has served on the board of many organizations both on a national and local level.  These include the Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich, Daycroft School Foundation, Indian Harbor Yacht Club. In addition she has been very active in fund raising for organizations including the United Way, Junior Achievement, Greenwich Academy, New York Yacht Club, Stanford University and many others. Her civic activities include: Alliance Francaise, Junior League, Naval War College Foundation, Navy League, Greenwich Library Friends, SoundWaters, and First Church. She also belongs to several clubs in the region.

She includes among her most dramatic accomplishment that of summiting Mt.Kilimanjaro at 19,340 feet in September of 2000.  Given her extensive background, we know that she will climb great heights to help ensure Broken Promises success.

Joy serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Foundation. She is responsible for identifying and securing philanthropic partnerships and development in support for Broken Promises from individuals, foundations, organizations and other funding entities to support annual operating needs, capital needs, programming, endowment growth and future financial stability of the organization.

Cindy Clarke
Communications & Public Relations

Cindy Clarke is an accomplished writer and marketing communications consultant with over 25 years experience in strategic advertising, marketing and public relations for a diverse array of industries from start-ups, nonprofits to Fortune 500 companies.

Cindy, a single parent herself, is responsible for Broken Promises public image and making sure it is constantly in the public’s eye and of high awareness. She’s in charge of what we say and how we say it. She is responsible for targeting all media and communication channels including but are not limited to online media, magazines, newspapers, news television, major blogs, and more.

She will present Broken Promises mission and its services to the public in a targeted way using both the national daily press and the specialist trade press, in print and online, as well as influential organizations and associations outside of the press. She will also be using the interactive web, communities, social media and forums.

Cheryl DeMichael
Marketing, Direct & Online Interactive

Cheryl-DemichaelCheryl DeMichael is our Director of Marketing, Direct & Online Interactive.

Cheryl’s background is superb coming from travel, banking and mail order retail to support today’s complicated multi-media, multi-screen, multi-channel online environment.

She has provided strategic direction and managed direct and database marketing, new customer acquisition and online marketing activities for major corporations. She will be providing leadership direction to maximize house file direct mail and email strategies, customer segmentation, new customer acquisition and online marketing including email marketing and search engine marketing.

Anne Streckfus
Finance and Accounting

Anne Streckfus is our Director of Finance and Accounting. She is a CPA and has the broad experience we require to support our various goals and projects. She will be working closely with our outside accounting, fiscal sponsorship and audit firms to insure internal compliance with governmental requirements and efficient management of the organization.

Carla Craigle
Child Support Industry Liaison

Carla Craigle brings Broken Promises Foundation real world reality that it needs in order to provide effective direction to our mission.

A Carla is a founder of AmeriKids, Child Support Recovery Service, founded in February 1997 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Carla, herself, had been forced to cope with two children and no child support. The state agencies, direct collection efforts, letters to legislators – all the way to and including President Clinton – only resulted in the same, extremely disappointing situation … no child support. Joining forces with an experienced bill collector, Verna, child support payments soon began to arrive on a regular basis and the account was quickly paid in full. Thus, AmeriKids was born.

She is on the board of the Child Support Enforcement Council (CSEC), the leading national association of the private child support enforcement agencies. CSEC is committed to providing effective options to custodial parents who have been unable to secure a consistent payment stream into their homes.

Dr. Ingi Soliman
Chairman, Parenting and Child Development Advisory GroupT

The Single Parenting and Child Development Advisory Group is headed by Dr. Ingi Soliman, Chairman of the group’s Governing Committee.

Dr. Soliman received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The New School for Social Research, and trained at Beth Israel Medical Center, North Central Bronx Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital and New York Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains, NY. She is currently practicing in Westport, CT and White Plains, NY. In her practice she works with Adults, Children and Adolescents suffering from mood disorders, family stress, anxiety disorders and eating disorders, as well as young adults coping with issues of transition into adulthood. She completed a fellowship in child/adolescent psychotherapy and is well connected with the major Universities throughout theConnecticut, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts area including New York City.

Eileen Ward
Chairman, Childcare and Early Education Advisory Group

This group is headed by Eileen Ward serving as Chairman. Eileen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Fairfield University.

She holds a Connecticut Director’s Credential at the Master Level. Her extensive background and involvement with local and regional advisory councils, task forces and with public and private organizations, establishers her as a highly qualified individual to head this area. She will be building a team to ensure our efforts are well planned and of excellent quality.


Bernard Deverin
Chairman, Advocacy and Governmental Affairs Advisory Group

Bernard Deverin is providing board oversight of our Advocacy and Governmental Affairs acLviLes as Chairman of our National Committee in that area

In 2003, after spending more than 20 years as a energy derivatives trader on Wall Street. He traded in his 3-piece suit and donned a hard hat as the Founder/President of Westport Builder Group, a building-design firm. He currently utilizes his financial knowledge, building expertise and environmental concerns as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Westport, CT. His firm volunteered for the Compo Beach revitalization and aided in the cleanup a]er Storm Sandy last year.

He is at home with the process of government affairs having grown up in a political family. His father served 11 terms in the New Jersey General Assembly. As one might expect, his passion is politics.
